Al
I am a writer. Even in childhood I enjoyed this activity. Most of my material is political, social, or environmental in nature. I write news, commentaries, and the occasional feature story; all of this, from a point of view outside of mainstream thinking. Additionally, I have proofreading and copy-editing experience. In other words, I can fix a writer’s spelling or grammatical errors in order to allow their readers the experience of a smoother, easier and more enjoyable read. I always do this with a commitment to maintaining the integrity of the writer’s creativity and the spirit of his or her material. This is a service that I am offering here as well as that of some translation – Spanish to English.
Experience:
2002 -2008 I have been an editor for the Arkansas Independent Media Center: (http://arkansas.indymedia.org/) where I also write news headlines – in English and Spanish, announcements, and the occasional feature story or editorial.
2006-2007 - Contributed a guest editorial on the subject of immigration to the Northwest Arkansas Times
2006-2007 Contributing writer for Diario Libertdad, a Spanish-language online editorial forum from Vera Cruz & Jalisco, Mexico
2004 Contributing writer (one time) to the New Standard
2003-2006 Contributing writer for Online Journal
2001-2002 Assistant Editor Ozark Gazette
1990-2003 Contributing writer for the Ozark Gazette
1980-1991 Contributing writer for the Grapevine newspaper

Additionally, I am an occasional contributing writer for the Little Rock Free Press. Other writing projects have included the former Eureka Triangle, El Centro Por Medios Independiantes de Tijuana, and the Fayetteville Free Weekly. You may also find the occasional letter to the editor in either of the two major newspapers in Northwest Arkansas.
Training: I have an Associates in Arts degree from Rhode Island Junior College. Additionally, I completed a course in journalism and studied fiction writing from the Newspaper Institute of America, formerly of Mamaroneck, New York.
Other:
I have a passionate interest in all things political, social, and environmental. Having studied American federal government, political science, and international relations in college, I feel that I have a good understanding of how government does, or should work. I have traveled to Mexico on a couple of occasions and have a strong interest in Mexican culture and politics. Further, I do political analysis; this, often from a point of view outside of the mainstream train of thought. I have been a guest on local radio-talk shows in the past, and have been a guest on various programs or political round tables hosted at Community Access Television (CAT) and U of A TV. I have done public speaking on the threat to civil liberties at the Fayetteville Town Center during one of CAT’s Freedom Fests and have addressed peace demonstrations organized by the OMNI Center for Peace, Justice & Ecology.
