Rebecca G. King
Born and raised in Carroll County, Arkansas, Rebecca has had a deep love for art since a very young age. Some of her earliest memories involve imaginatively watching cloud formations on sultry summer days.
Artistically, Rebecca seeks to make an emotional connection with her subjects capturing spontaneous moments and imaginative insights as they present themselves.
Rebecca has creative interests in oils, acrylics, charcoal, mixed media, graphic design, writing and photography. She is currently studying drawing, painting, digital photography, and creative writing.
She has attended photographic, plein air, and expressive painting workshops and has herself presented local and state programs on ‘Art as an Educational Tool for Thinking Outside of the Box’, ‘Art as an Educational Tool for Teaching Observational Skills and Compassion’, and ‘Spontaneous Painting as _Expression and Therapy.’ She has presented at national and international conferences in St. Louis, Fort Worth, and Toronto, Canada. Rebecca was recently notified that she has been selected to present an arts-integration program to the National Middle School Association Conference in Nashville, TN this coming fall.
Rebecca was a 2005 Fellow to the Summer Invitational National Writing Project (NWAWP) at the UofA-F, an affiliate of the National Writing Project in Berkeley, CA. The NWAWP is under the direction of UofA CIED Professor Sam Totten (an internationally recognized Holocaust and Genocide investigator and writer). Rebecca recently conceptualized and organized a community showcase venue to highlight the creative works of NWAWP Fellow teachers/authors from Northwest Arkansas.
In addition to creating works of art, Rebecca conducts process painting workshops. These workshops explore creative self-expression, expand self-limiting boundaries, and increase artistic freedom. They're FUN! And you don't have to be artistic (in fact, it's a plus if your not). She is available to work one-on-one or in small group settings.
Rebecca works professionally as a school mentor with the Arkansas A+ Schools Network at the University of Arkansas. In this position, she travels the state assisting schools in developing creative classrooms through cross-curriculum arts-integration. She enjoys creative cooking, gardening, and travel.
